SIGPARSE 2013 Annual Report

SIGPARSE is ACL's special interest group on natural language parsing. The main purposes of the SIG are: to promote interest in the parsing of natural languages; to provide a means of disseminating information about natural language parsing; to ensure the continuity of the biennial 'International Conferences on Parsing Technologies' (IWPT); and to sponsor relevant meetings and workshops.

In early 2013, the SIG held an election for its officers for the next 3-year term of office, 2013-15. The results of the election are as follows: John Carroll (president), Eric De La Clergerie (secretary), Yuji Matsumoto (information officer), and Kenji Sagae (information officer).

The last IWPT was the 12th in the series, and was held in Dublin, Ireland in October 2011. In recent months, the main focus of the SIG has been on preparations for the the next conference in the series. IWPT 2013, the 13th International Conference on Parsing Technologies, will be held in Nara, Japan, November 27-29, 2013. The local arrangements committee is based at Nara Institute of Science and Technology, and is chaired by Yuji Matsumoto. Harry Bunt (Tilburg) is general chair for the conference, and the program co-chairs are Khalil Sima'an (Amsterdam) and Liang Huang (CUNY, New York).

SIGPARSE maintains a website that contains information about the SIG, upcoming activities, and instructions for joining the membership and the mailing list. The website address is: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~sigparse/
