Aline is affiliated to the Department of Computer Science, University of Sheffield (UK) and to the Institute of Informatics, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil).

She was also affiliated to the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, University of Essex (UK) between 2017-2019. She received her PhD from the University of Cambridge (UK) in 2001, and held postdoctoral positions at the University of Cambridge and University of Essex (UK). She has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy in 2014/2015 and in the Laboratory of Information and Decision Systems in 2011/2012. In 2014 she was a Visiting Scholar at the Labo­ra­toire LaTTiCe at the École Normale Supé­rieure (France), in 2012/2013 an Erasmus-Mundus Visiting Scholar at Saarland University (Germany) and from 2006-2009 at the Computer Science Department, University of Bath. From 2007-2017 she had a Research Fellowship from the Brazilian Scientific Research Council (CNPq).

She is a member of the Natural Language Processing group at the University of Sheffield and of the Neurocomputational and Language Processing Laboratory of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). Her research interests are in lexical semantics, multilinguality, and cognitively motivated NLP. This work includes techniques for Multiword Expression treatment using statistical methods and distributional semantic models, and applications like Text Simplification and Question Answering, for languages like English and Portuguese.
