1st Shared Task on Native Language Identification
Submitted by Joel Tetreault on 4 January 2013 - 9:32pmSHARED TASK DESCRIPTION
We are excited to organize the first shared task in Native Language Identification (NLI) which is the task of identifying the native language (L1) of a writer based solely on a sample of their writing. The task is framed as a classification problem where the set of L1s is known a priori. Most work has focused on identifying the native language of writers learning English as a second language. This problem has been growing in popularity and has motivated several ACL, NAACL and EMNLP papers, as well as a master's and doctorate thesis.
1st Workshop on Metaphor in NLP
Submitted by Joel Tetreault on 4 January 2013 - 9:26pmWORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Characteristic to all areas of human activity (from poetic to ordinary
to scientific) and, thus, to all types of discourse, metaphor becomes
an important problem for natural language processing. Its ubiquity in
language has been established in a number of corpus studies and the
role it plays in human reasoning has been confirmed in psychological
experiments. This makes metaphor an important research area for
computational and cognitive linguistics, and its automatic
identification and interpretation indispensable for any
semantics-oriented NLP application.

I Virtual Workshop in Linguistic Engineering
Submitted by Daniel Manuel C... on 6 December 2011 - 11:02amThe School of Informatics of the Universidad Andres Bello, sponsored by NAACL invites to our I Virtual Workshop in Linguistics Engineering. This event has the goal of developing collaboration networks between researchers and students of both, linguistics and engineering. Our intention is to meet, in a virtual space, researchers of the field interested in sharing experiences, and to motivate to other academics and students to discover relations among linguistic and engineering (and viceversa). The language of this workshop will be Spanish.
