IJCAI-16 Call for Demos
Deadline: March, 6, 2016 (11:59pm UTC-12)

IJCAI is the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, the main international gathering of researchers in AI. The conference is sponsored jointly by IJCAI and the national AI societies of the host nation. The 25th International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence will be held in New York City from July 9 to July 15, 2016.

New York City is one of the world's premier international cities and home to a large array of academic institutions, technology companies and other important players in the artificial intelligence community. As such, New York City is an excellent venue for bringing both the industry and academia much closer.

The Demonstrations Track provides a unique opportunity in this regard. Its primary goals are: first, to provide a good framework for exchanging ideas between theory and practice; secondly, to showcase the applicability of different AI technologies to real-world problems.

Due to its interest, two different journals (AI Communications and ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology) offer a fast-track review of extended versions of a selection of accepted submissions to the Demonstrations Track of IJCAI-16.

TOPICS

As the premier general conference on AI, IJCAI 2016 welcomes submissions across all areas of AI and the Demonstrations Track of IJCAI follows the same principle though with an emphasis on the applicability of AI to real practice. Thus, the track scope includes (but not limited to):

Computer Vision + Genetic algorithms

+ Knowledge-based systems

+ Learning algorithms

+ Multi-agent systems

+ Natural Language Processing

+ Neural Networks

+ Planning

+ Robotics

+ Scheduling

just to mention a number of different AI techniques. With regard to fields of application, we are seeking working systems on (but not limited to):

+ Decision support

+ (Automated) monitoring systems

+ Smart cities

+ Social networks

+ Space applications

+ Traffic management

+ Tutoring systems

+ Unmanned vehicles/planes

+ Q/A System

+ Recommender system

+ AI in software engineering

+ Human-Computer interactive system

+ Speech and voice recognition

+ Games

We encourage all submissions that describe the applicability of some field of AI to real-world problems. While it is not expected for demos to be entirely finished, it is expected that they will show the applicability of different AI techniques with a strong emphasis on the difficulties to bring these to real practice.

In particular, we also encourage submitters to the Main Track of IJCAI-16 to showcase their systems in the Demonstrations Track. Doing so, requires submitting your work twice (see SUBMISSION DETAILS AND REVIEW PROCESS). Note, however, that main track and demo track are run separately and no explicit coordination is offered, which suggests while one submission might be accepted in one track, it might be rejected (or not) in the other.

Industrial researchers and practitioners are encouraged to submit their works to the Demonstration track.

IMPORTANT DATES

+ Submission: March, 6, 2016 (11:59pm UTC-12)

+ Notification of acceptance/rejection: April, 8, 2016 (11:59pm UTC-12)

+ Camera-ready copy due: April 20, 2016 (5:00pm UTC-8)

SUBMISSION DETAILS AND REVIEW PROCESS

• Formatting Guidelines, LaTeX Styles and Word Template can be downoaded here. [ ijcai-16.org/downloads/FormattingGuidelinesIJCAI-16.zip ]

• Demonstration Track Submission link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ijcai16

The submission shall consist of a 2-pages short paper describing the system and providing information on the following points: what is being demonstrated at the venue; why the work being demonstrated is important and why it advances the current state of the art or benefits others; finally, how the work will be demonstrated. In order to make these points clearer to the Demonstration Program Committee, submitters are welcome to submit additional material in a zip file whose length does not exceed 100mb. This additional material might consist of additional papers, videos, slides, etc.

Submitted papers must be formatted according to IJCAI guidelines and submitted electronically through the IJCAI 2016 paper submission site. Full instructions including formatting guidelines and electronic templates are available on the IJCAI 2016 website. Submissions must be in electronic form using IJCAI 2016 paper submission software linked above. Submissions must be self-contained; IJCAI will not accept or review any supplementary materials. At least one author of each accepted paper is required to attend the conference to present the work. Authors will be required to agree to this requirement at the time of submission. All technical papers are due electronically on March 6, 2016 (11:59pm UTC- 12). Submissions received after the deadline or that do not meet the length or formatting requirements will not be considered for review (see the PAPER LENGTH AND FORMAT section below). No email or fax submissions will be accepted. Notification of receipt of an electronically submitted paper will be emailed to the designated contact author soon after receipt. If there are problems with the electronic submission, the Demonstration Program Co-Chairs will contact the designated author by email. The designated author will be emailed notification of acceptance or rejection by April 8, 2016 (11:59pm UTC-12).

Papers will be reviewed by program committee members. Papers will be subject to blind peer review. Selection criteria include originality, innovation, applicability and potential benefits of the resulting system. Note that there will be no rebuttal phase.

KEYWORDS

When submitting their paper, authors will be required to choose content area keywords. General categories should only be used if specific categories do not apply or do not accurately reflect the main contributions. The full list of keywords will be available on the submission site.

PAPER LENGTH AND FORMAT

Submitted technical papers must be no longer than two pages in total. Papers must be formatted according to posted IJCAI 2016 guidelines, which will be available on the conference website (the style will be essentially that of previous IJCAI conferences). Papers must be formatted for letter-size (8.5 x 11) paper. Electronic templates for the LaTeX typesetting package, as well as a Word template, that conform to IJCAI 2016 guidelines will be made available at the conference website.

Authors are required to submit their electronic papers in PDF format. Files in Postscript (ps) or any other format will not be accepted. Over-length papers will be rejected without review. Submissions must be self-contained; IJCAI will not accept or review any supplementary material.

In order to make blind reviewing possible, authors must omit their names and affiliations from the paper. Also, while the references should include all published literature relevant to the paper, including previous works of the authors, it should not include unpublished works (papers that are accepted and are made available online by the publisher can be cited). When referring to one’s own work, use the third person rather than the first person. For example, say “Previously, Foo and Bar [7] have shown that...”, rather than “In our previous work [7] we have shown that...”. Such identifying information can be added back to the final camera-ready version of accepted papers.

SERVICES

Researchers and practitioners showing a demonstration are required to bring all necessary equipment and material for the successful operation of their exhibit. IJCAI will provide shipping instructions, if needed, for the delivery of material to the conference site. Special electrical connections must be arranged through the Demonstration Program Co-Chairs no later than 45 days prior to the start of the conference. Electrical and Internet service will be made available to confirmed exhibitors.

Tabletops will be allowed for every demo. Each exhibitor will be provided with one, 6 feet long and about 30 inches wide where they may arrange their display. If available and if space permits, additional tables can be provided. Additionally, every exhibitor will be given a panel to show a poster.
