My research background is in Corpus-based natural language engineering, English and Arabic Corpus linguistics and NLP, Part-of-Speech grammatical tagging, NLP for language learning, NLP for understanding the Quran. I have run a range of research projects, funded by EU, EPSRC, ESRC, HEFC, MoD, SERC, BriSMES, and other sources. I have (co-)authored over 300 publications, and supervised c30 successful PhD graduates. I have taught NLP, text analytics, data mining, knowledge based systems, professional development, computational modelling, corpus linguistics, etc. I am autistic, and am carer for disabled wife and son, so being away from Leeds can be challenging; nevertheless I enjoy travel when feasible, and discovering interesting people and places.
