Professor and Chair, Department of Linguistics, Boston University. BA in Linguistics (Yale), MA in French (Middlebury), PhD in Linguistics (MIT). Engaged in collaborative research on the linguistic structure of American Sign Language and on computer-based sign language recognition from video. In conjunction with this research, and as part of the American Sign Language Linguistic Research Project (ASLLRP, http://www.bu.edu/asllrp/), computational tools for linguistic analysis of sign language (SignStream®) are being developed, and our linguistically annotated video corpora are shared on the Web - for use in computer science and linguistic research.
