The MARWIDE special issue of IJAIED provides an opportunity for practitioners and researchers from diverse fields to present new work that demonstrates the benefits of interdisciplinary approaches to support students’ integration of written language skills (reading and writing) with subject matter learning. Relevant research to support these skills is distributed across several fields, including learning design, the psychology of reading and writing, natural language processing, and human computer interaction.

LiLT is inviting submissions for a special issue on Modality in Natural Language Understanding.
Our main interest is in contributions that show how modal expressions contribute to inferences about, among other things, what is actual, likely or unlikely, what an agent believes or prefers, or what the obligations in a given situation are.
We envision three major parts for the volume, corresponding to the broad categories below:

MOTIVATION
Recent initiatives in language technology have lead to the development of at least minimal
language processing toolkits for all EU-official languages, as well as for languages with a
large number of speakers worldwide such as Chinese and Arabic. This is a big step towards
the automatic processing and/or extraction of information, especially from official documents
and newspapers, where the standard, literary language is used.
Apart from those official languages, a large number of dialects or closely-related language
