Kevin Gimpel is an assistant professor at TTI-Chicago, a philanthropically endowed academic computer science institute on the campus of the University of Chicago. His research focuses on speech and language processing. Recent interests include paraphrase recognition, machine comprehension, commonsense knowledge representation, and joint speech/text processing. He also works on machine learning motivated by NLP, including approximate inference for structure prediction, learning criteria for supervised and unsupervised learning, and neural network architecture engineering for linguistic data. He was previously a research assistant professor at TTI-Chicago from fall 2012 to summer 2015 and he received his PhD in 2012 from the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.
