I am a Ph.D student in Computational Linguistics at the Linguistics department of the CUNY, Graduate Center. In CL I have found the perfect intersection of my passion for Mathematics and Computer Science and my interest in human language an its structure. Before I moved to New York to pursue my graduate education y did a double Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Literature (with a minor in Classics) at the Universidad de Los Andes in my native Bogota, Colombia. I now have completed a Masters degree in Linguistics at CUNY and am working towards my Ph.D. My interests are at the intersection of theoretical linguistics and natural language processing, mostly in seeing how the two areas can inform each other. I am currently working on Neural Network Language Models, trying to assess to what level different NN architectures can learn syntactic dependencies and how to train them to do so with minimal supervision. I am interested in all applications of artificial intelligence for NLP, including machine translation, information extraction and language parsing.
