EACL Sponsorships

Nothing new since last report 2014Q3. Student sponsorship is expected for 2015 following the usual EACL Sponsorship Policy. Candidates are ESSLII and ACL.

EACL shorts

  • A newsletter was produced describing computational linguistics events and conferences held in Europe during 2013 and 2014 (www.eacl.org/contents/newsletter19.html)
  • A new EACL sponsorship chair is needed for the ACL International Sponsorship Committee. Should be appointed as soon as possible
  • EACL is studying adopting an anti-harrasment policy, similar to those of NAACL/ACL. This should be in place for the next EACL conference

EACL Website

As already reported in 2014Q3, we initiated a process to revamp the EACL web pages, to make them more up-to-date and maintainable. Alexander Koller and Douwe Kiela led this initiative in 2014. The new site is now up and running. The EACL Board will keep working on polishing the current content during the upcoming months.

EACL Conference Handbook

As already reported in 2014Q3 we have created a new Conference Handbook, based on the ACL model and sharing much of its content, but tailored towards EACL. This initiative was led by Stephen Clark and Vivi Nastase, with input from the other members of the EACL Board, and Shuly Wintner, the General Chair of EACL 2014. The new Handbook is complete and ready to go online. This will happen during the first months of 2015. It will be publicly available, maintained by the Board and should be already followed by the coming EACL 2017 organisers.

EACL Elections

Elections for the EACL Board were held in autumn 2014. The list of nominated candidates was sent to the Chapter in early November. By December 1, no additional nominations had been received. The new EACL Board for the period 2015-2016 is as follows:

  • Chair: Lluís Màrquez (Qatar Computing Research Institute, Qatar)
  • Chair-Elect: Walter Daelemans (University of Antwerp, Belgium)
  • Secretary: Caroline Sporleder (Trier University, Germany)
  • Treasurer: Mike Rosner (University of Malta, Malta)
  • Advisory Board: Iryna Gurevych (Technical University Darmstadt, Germany), Frank Keller (University of Edinburgh, UK), Roberto Navigli (University of Rome, Italy), and Stephan Oepen (University of Oslo, Norway)

The EACL welcomes the new members of the EACL Board and greatly thanks the outgoing members for their years of service to the CL community.
