Progress

We received three draft bids by March 15, which were later resubmitted as final bids by May 15, after all bidders had received extensive feedback from the coordinating committee. In the following discussion and evaluation of the bids, the committee quickly established that two bids were considerably stronger than the third and decided that site visits to the two top bidders would be needed to make the final decision. After the site visits had been completed, the committee discussed the bids again and a strong majority for one of the bids emerged. All three bidders have now been notified about the outcome, and the venue for ACL 2018 will be announced at the business meeting in Berlin.

The most important immediate steps ahead of us are:

  • Set up website (local chair in collaboration with ACL webmaster)
  • Finalize dates and sign contracts (local chair, treasurer, coordinating committee)
  • Appoint general chair (coordinating committee)

These tasks should be completed as soon as possible. The next milestone after that is in January 2017, when the coordinating committee should appoint program chairs.
