SIGSEM annual report to ACL for 2022-2023

Sina Zarrieß, SIGSEM President

SIGSEM is the ACL Special Interest Group on Computational Semantics. More information about SIGSEM can be found on our website: www.sigsem.org. Users can also become members from the website; members are added to a low-volume, moderated mailing list (mainly conference and job announcements). SIGSEM is fully compliant with ACL guidelines for SIGs and currently has 878 members.

Our most recent regular election was held in 2022, and elected Sina Zarrieß (President), Stergios Chatzikyriakidis (Secretary), Tushar Khot and Sandro Pezzelle (Information Officers).

SIGSEM holds an annual international conference on computational semantics (IWCS). IWCS 2023 was held in Nancy, June 20-23, as an in-person conference. All presentations were recorded and will be made available online. The organizers of IWCS 2023 were: Maxime Amblard (Program Chair and Local Chair) and Ellen Breitholtz (Program Chair). The keynote speakers were Raquel Fernandez (University of Amsterdam) and Lucia Donatelli (Vreije Universiteit Amsterdam). IWCS awarded two outstanding paper awards.

IWCS 2023 received a total of 55 submissions and accepted 19 long papers and 14 short papers. It was organized with the support of Loria, Inria and the IDMC of the Université de Lorraine. A total of four workshops were colocated with IWCS: NALOMA'23, InqBnB4, DMR 2023, ISA-19. These workshops are also endorsed by SIGSEM.

SIGSEM also endorses other semantics-related workshops and events that are open to the general community. In 2023 we received an endorsement request from the Global WordNet conference (Francis Bond) and decided to accept it.
