Chapter Board Meeting
The board converses regularly by email. It held its annual meeting on June 3 2018, during NAACL 2018 in New Orleans.
Treasurer's Report
(Incomplete)
In 2018, our total outlays totaled $18,000: $5k for NACLO (as we have done since 2012), $3k for the Emerging Regions Fund (fourth year in a row at this amount) and $10k to support fix students to attend the JSALT Summer School at JHU in June.
NAACL 2018 Conference
The 2018 Conference was held at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans, June 1- June 6, 2018. The General Chair was Marilyn Walker. The Program Chairs were Amanda Stent and Heng Ji. The chairs created a number of new initiatives: a Test-of-Time award, and an industrial track, both of which were received very positively by the conference participants. The conference also offered childcare through KiddieCorp (like ACL 2017 in Vancouver). Although a significant amount of sponsorship was brought in specifically for this purpose, and this was advertised heavily, only three children were signed up. We believe that alternative approaches to offering or subsidizing childcare should be explored in the future.
NAACL 2019 Conference
The 2019 Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, June 2-June 7 2019. The General Chair is Jill Burstein. The Program Chairs are Christy Doran, Ted Pedersen and Thamar Solorio.
New and Continuing Initiatives
We continue to sponsor NACLO ($5K/year), the Emerging Regions Fund ($3K/year) and scholarships for undergraduate students to attend the JSALT summer school ($10K/year).
