General

The Special Interest Group on the Uralic Languages (SIGUR) has 38 members as of 22 June 2016 (based on replies to the Google Forms for registration and the registry of initial interested participants).

2016 is the year of formation for SIGUR, we have created a Google group for announcements as well as an IRC channel and a home page.

The SIGUR board

The Elections for the initial board were held in January 2016 in conjunction with the first business meeting in the IWCLUL. The nominations for chair, secretary and the board members were unanimously accepted as further detailed in the meeting minutes.

  • Secretary: Francis M. Tyers Researcher at UiT Norgga árktalaš universitehta
  • Events: Michael Rießler Researcher at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg
  • Community liaison: Trond Trosterud Professor at UiT Norgga árktalaš universitehta

The current board serves from 1 Jan 2016 to 31 Jan 2017.

2nd International Workshop for Computational Linguistics of Uralic Languages (IWCLUL) in 2016

The 2nd Workshop was held in Szeged. The programme is published on the workshop homepage. The workshop included the first, formative business meeting of ACL SIGUR.

Events planned for 2017

IWCLUL2017: SIGUR intends to organise the 3rd International Workshop on Computational Linguistics for the URalic languages (IWCLUL2017) at the Norwegian University Centre in St. Petersburg, Russia. Details to be confirmed and first call for papers issued in July, 2016.
