2016Q3 Reports: EACL 2017
EACL-2017 Report, July 2016
The organization of EACL 2017 has continued with two important highligts.
First, the contracts between ACL and the local organizers were all signed in October-November 2015. A PCO (Grupo Pacifico) has been used as an intermediary body because it was simpler on several aspects compared to signing the contracts directly with the University of Valencia. Second, the Coordinating Committee appointed the main chairs of the conference. The General Chair will be Mirella Lapata (University of Edinburgh), and the Program Co-Chairs will be Phil Blunsom (University of Oxford) and Alexander Koller (University of Potsdam). This is a very strong team. We are confident on a very successful conference in 2017.
The local organizers (Paolo Rosso and colleagues from the University of Valencia) already prepared an initial website for EACL 2017 where you can consult the main information and dates about the conference: http://www.eacl2017.org/
The real organization work will start in April 2016, one year before the conference.

Important Dates:
- September 30, 2016 Long paper submission deadline
- December 16, 2016 Short paper submission deadline
- April 3-7, 2017 EACL 2017 in Valencia
- April 3-4, 2017 Tutorials and Workshops
- April 5-7, 2017 Main Conference
- Submission, and camera ready dates have been agreed for the main
conference and satellite events together with the publication chairs.
- Calls have been out for the main conference and all satellite events
- except* for workshops. There is a meeting at ACL to decide the format
and the call dates (since the call is for all conferences). Also, my understanding is that this year they want to elicit a popularity vote for the workshop proposals which complicates matters.
- The student workshop guys have set up their own page
(https://sites.google.com/site/eaclsrw2017/) and everything seems to be going smoothly on their end.
- Our publication chairs will issue the ACL style files for the main
conference by the time ACL takes place.
- We decided not to make the demo papers anonymous as we felt it is
impossible to actually look at the systems without revealing the identity of the authors (this was the same last year).
- Phil and Alexander are working on the area chairs (they have a first
draft), they should be finalizing it by the end of this week.
- Softconf has been set up for the conference and the satellite
events.
- I will be asking the program chairs to come up with names for
invited speakers next (we are planning for three speakers, one per day).
- The local team have been absolutely great, very responsive to all our
requests. They have set up a twitter account for the conference: https://twitter.com/EACL2017
