Demonstration Chairs Report

Heng Ji, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Mohit Bansal, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

The submission deadline for demonstration papers at ACL 2017 was March 1, 2017. We received 68 submissions, of which 21 were selected for inclusion in the program (acceptance rate of 31%) after review by three members of the program committee. Submissions were encouraged to range from early research prototypes to mature production-ready systems, including technologically innovative industrial systems. Of particular interest were publicly available open-source or open-access systems. We received a diverse and interesting range of such systems. The two demo co-chairs then went through all the reviewer recommendations to make the final acceptance decisions. Accepted submissions will be published in a companion volume of the ACL 2017 conference proceedings, and will be presented during the August 1st, 2017 (Tuesday) evening poster session from 5:45pm-7:45pm. This year's ACL will also feature a Best Demo Award (and a runner-up), with the motivation to encourage researchers to make their code publicly available and in the form of an end-to-end runnable system. We would like to sincerely thank the members of the program committee for their timely help in reviewing the submissions, as well as the ACL organizing committee for their help throughout the process.
