Professional Conduct Committee — Report, March 2020

Emily M. Bender and Graeme Hirst, co-chairs

B. Training of PCC members

A training session by Anne Grant for new PCC members was held at ACL 2019 in Florence, where five new members were trained, and another will be held next July at ACL 2020 in Seattle. The PCC now has 16 trained volunteers (in addition to the co-chairs) on whom to draw. Membership of the committee is for three years, and is renewable.

C. Implementation of COI policy

There have been two reports of cases where the COI policy as implemented in START appears to have not worked as intended. We are following up with Softconf to understand what has happened. We are also working with Dorothy Deng (legal counsel) to make sure that the proposed policy for standing (non-expiring) declarations of COIs is GPDR-compliant.
