ACL policies should be applied consistently across the five major *ACL conferences (ACL, NAACL, EACL, AACL and EMNLP) and from year to year for each individual conference. General and program chairs of the conferences will meet with the ACL conference officer in the early stages of planning a conference. In the meeting, ACL conference officer and conference chairs will review ACL policies and how to apply them to the specifics of the planned conference. In general, the ACL supports innovation and differences between the conferences that reflect the special character of the organizing regional chapter or special interest group. In coordination with the ACL Exec, the conference officer will advise conference organizers on how to strike a balance between consistency on the one hand and embracing innovation and the unique character of each individual conference on the other.
