Most of the details of the SRW can be found in the Student Chairs’ report. Below the Faculty Advisors give an overview of the roles they played in this year’s SRW.
SRW Faculty Advisors
- Rico Sennrich (University of Zurich, CH; University of Edinburgh, UK)
- Nianwen Xue (Brandeis University, USA)
- Derek F. Wong (University of Macau, China)
- Jing Jiang (Singapore Management University, Singapore)
Funding
- Although there were unused funds from last year's (US-)NSF grant, we were unable to roll these over to this year.
- Due to the virtual format of the conference, we focused on funding registration and membership fees for students who apply for financial assistance.
- Rather than applying for new grants or industry funding, we used funds from an ongoing Swiss National Science Foundation project.
Advising Student Chairs
During the process of organizing the SRW, the Student Chairs approached the Faculty Advisors in various occasions for advice. The Faculty Advisors gave advice accordingly based on their previous experience. List below are some of the issues that came up and the Faculty Advisors gave advice on:
- Call for papers: The Faculty Advisors gave some advice to the Student Chairs regarding the call for papers, particularly about the page limit.
- Acceptance rate: The Faculty Advisors gave some general guidelines about the acceptance rate when approached by the Student Chairs regarding this matter.
- Presentation format: The Faculty Advisors gave Student Chairs general advice on the presentation format (oral vs. poster) of the accepted papers and how things would be done with a virtual conference.
