Objectives
- to promote interest in the use of the web as a source of linguistic data, and as an object of study in its own right;
- to provide members of the ACL with a special interest in the web-as-corpus with a means of exchanging news of recent research developments and other matters of interest;
- to sponsor meetings and workshops on the web as corpus that appear to be timely and worthwhile.
Officers
- Chair: Roland Schäfer (email: schaefer(at)hu-berlin.de) – in office provisionally until the August 2021 election
- Secretary: Egon W. Stemle (email: egon.stemle(at)eurac.edu) – in office provisionally until the August 2021 election
The current SIGWAC officers' term is 01 August 2018 – 31 July 2021.
Events
After WAC-XII had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, WAC-XIII was postponed to 2022 or 2023, depending on the further developments surrounding the pandemic. Funding for WAC-XIII might be available from CRC 1412 "Register" (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft [DFG, German Research Foundation] – SFB 1412, 416591334) through the SIGWAC chairman.
As the current officers' term ends this year, elections will be held in August 2022 via the SIGWAC mailing list. The chairman will run for office again, but alternative candidates will be invited in due time.
