12 June 2006
We'll be sending you, as a registered delegate, some quick notes each week until the conference - to highlight aspects you should be aware of, so you can enjoy your visit to Australia to the fullest.
QUICK NOTE 1: POSTERS
Anyone who is preparing a POSTER for the conference needs to know the dimensions of the posters:
The finished poster size for display on site is A0 (83.0 cm x 115.4 cm, or 32.7 x 45.4 inches). Posters must be of PORTRAIT alignment i.e. max 83.0cm wide x 115.4cm high. Please bring VELCRO DOTS to attach your posters.
A schedule of poster presentations will be placed on the website soon, and will also be in the Delegate's Handbook you will receive onsite.
There are two evenings of official poster viewing: both Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th July, between 5:00pm and 7:00pm scheduled presenters will be there to discuss their posters, while we enjoy drinks and nibbles at the Convention Centre.
QUICK NOTE 2: LUNCH at the Convention Centre
We're not automatically catering for your lunch. Those who order a LUNCH BOX each day will be able to stay onsite, or take it out into the sunshine of Darling Harbour to enjoy. You can also walk around the Darling Harbour precinct, there are plenty of eateries - but be aware, it is not cheap, and you may be advised to buy a lunch box as good value, and easy - short queues, plenty of places to network and enjoy lunch while you use the WIRELESS facilities available in our conference area :)
Here's what you will get in a (sample) lunch box if you decide to buy on site:
Marina Lunchbox
Salmon miso, green tea noodles and coriander salad Spinach tortillo wrap with lettuce, tomato, avocado and smoked turkey Butter lettuce hearts, egg dressing and semi dried tomato Seasonal fresh fruit Tetrapak fruit juice
- delicious!
And if you want a VEGETARIAN lunch box, be sure to mark on your registration form your special dietary requirement as vegetarian - then we'll do this for you.
QUICK NOTE 3: MONORAIL pass
The 7-day Monorail Pass (we've upgraded it to 7-days) is a must if you are staying at any of the conference hotels in the precinct, or moving between the Workshops / Tutorial venue (UTS) and the main Conference (Convention Centre). The monorail does its loop every 10 minutes, with the pass you can jump on and off as often as you wish for the 7 days Sunday 16th July through Saturday 22nd July.
Since a single day monorail ticket for unlimited travel one day costs $9.00, for 7 days our ticket at $25.00 is exceptional value - and you should buy it even if you are only planning to use it on 3 days! It will also get you to and from the Conference Dinner, the starting point of the Wednesday Excursion, and the UTS precinct. There's a map of its route (the red MONORAIL marked) at http://www.metromonorail.com.au/StationLocatorFlash.asp.
QUICK NOTE 4: BOOK THESE EXTRAS
You can STILL BOOK any of these extras even if you've registered for the conference or workshops. Either go back to the online registration and work your way through and select just these extras, or take the registration form available on the web and complete the details and fax it to us with your credit card details. Note on the form or in the comments that you've already registered for other activities. We'll send you confirmation of your update.
Everything MUST be booked and paid for by 1st July, the cutoff point for all registrations other than onsite.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
