Coling-ACL Quick Notes #2

19 June 2006

We'll be sending you, as a registered delegate, some quick notes each week until the conference - to highlight aspects you should be aware of, so you can enjoy your visit to Australia to the fullest.

This is the SECOND such email bulletin.

QUICK NOTE 5: WHEN YOU GET TO SYDNEY
We are preparing a fantastic map for you to print and bring with you and carry around - to highlight all the really important places around the Convention Centre that you should know.

We'll post this on the website this week, and also refer to it in the next weekly bulletin. But there are 3 places that might be your first point of call to the Conference:

  1. University of Technology, Sydney - if you are attending the workshops or tutorials on the weekend of 15-16 July; or if you want to collect your monorail pass early so you can use it on Sunday 16th. Come to the UTS precinct, Quay Street Haymarket - enter at Building C.
  2. The Welcoming Cocktails on the evening of Sunday 16 July, sponsored by Google. Commencing 6:00pm, until 8:00pm, the cocktails will be held in the Convention Centre, Parkside Ballroom Foyer - this is on level 1. Enter via the Harbourside main reception area, at the northern end of the convention centre. This is the main entrance if coming from the Novotel or via the monorail.
  3. Registration on the morning of Monday 17 July - come to the Bayside Foyer - level 1 - best entrance via the Harbourside main reception area, at the northern end of the convention centre. This is the main entrance if coming from the Novotel or via the monorail.

QUICK NOTE 6: REGISTRATION

We will firstly be registering people at the University of Technology (UTS) workshop and tutorials. Registration will be available there from 7:45am on Saturday 15th July. Enter on Quay Street, Building C of the Business School. On Saturday 15 and Sunday 17 July we will register and give conference bags to all people who are attending the pre-conference workshops and tutorials. But we will also have available all registration envelopes with in particular the monorail passes and any guest passes to the welcoming cocktails - so if you need either of these, come to UTS any time up to 3:00pm on Sunday 16th. You will be able to collect your conference bags later, at the Convention Centre.

Next, we will register people at the Convention Centre from 7:00pm (not earlier, as we can't set up earlier) on Sunday 16th July (during and after the Welcoming Cocktail party). At this time we can also give bags to those who may have collected only their envelopes at UTS.

Thirdly, many people will register as they arrive for the beginning of the main conference, on Monday 17 July morning. The first Opening Session starts at 9:00am sharp, so we will be urging you to be seated by 8:45am. Registration will be available from 7:30am in the Bayside Gallery Foyer - come to level 1 - best entrance is via the Harbourside main reception area, at the northern end of the convention centre. This is the main entrance if coming from the Novotel or via the monorail.

QUICK NOTE 7: THE CONFERENCE DINNER

Where else can the Scots and the French co-exist, co-operate and co-host such an event? Our conference dinner will celebrate the efforts and inclinations in particular of our two local chairs - you'll need to be there to enjoy this. On Thursday 20th July at the Star City Ballroom - with a fabulous backdrop of city lights - and you can party on afterwards at the Casino and nighclubs below. You can still book - email the Secretariat if you have not already reserved your tickets.

QUICK NOTE 8: BOOK THE EXTRA ACTIVITIES

You can STILL BOOK any of the extra activities, even if you've registered for the conference or workshops. Either go back to the online registration and work your way through and select just these extras, or take the registration form available on the web and complete the details and fax it to us with your credit card details. Note on the form or in the comments that you've already registered for other activities. We'll send you confirmation of your update.

QUICK NOTE 9: REGISTRATION CLOSES JUNE 30TH

All registration closes on Friday 30th June - including for additional activities - so book now, make sure your colleagues do also. Onsite registrations will be taken but access to social activities will be limited at this stage.

Everything MUST be booked and paid for by 1st July, the cutoff point for all registrations other than onsite.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
