Coling-ACL Quick Notes #3

25 June 2006

We'll be sending you, as a registered delegate, some quick notes each week until the conference - to highlight aspects you should be aware of, so you can enjoy your visit to Australia to the fullest.

This is the THIRD such email bulletin - if you've missed any of the others, let me know if you'd like them again.

QUICK NOTE 9: WHEN YOU GET TO SYDNEY

We've prepared a fantastic interactive map for you orientate yourselves prior to arrival, but also for you to print and bring with you and carry around - to highlight all the really important places around the Convention Centre that you should know. It's on the web at www.acl2006.org/ and also highlights all the advertised accommodation places for the Conference.

QUICK NOTE 10: CHEAPER STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

There are plenty of cheap options around the area, and they're all marked on the map, and listed under Accommodation on the website at the bottom of the page www.acl2006.org/accommodation/listings/. You can email any of the listed backpackers or youth hostels, to book your room. So don't let price be an obstacle to registering NOW if you've not already done so.

QUICK NOTE 11: REGISTRATION CLOSES JUNE 30TH

Registration closes this coming Friday 30th June (at midnight USA West Coast time). After this time we can take no further registrations until on site at the conference itself. The registration facility will be removed from the website at this stage - so tell any colleagues who are still not registered to hurry! And if you want any add-ons such as the dinner, monorail tickets, lunch boxes - book this week!

QUICK NOTE 12:CANCELLATION FEES AFTER 1ST JULY

An Administration Fee of A$77 will be charged for any CANCELLATIONS after 1 July (on top of the bank fees charged necessarily for any refunds paid).

QUICK NOTE 13: THE CONFERENCE EXCURSION

According to the ACL custom, Wednesday 19th July is a 'free' day for delegates to really enjoy the beauty of Sydney. We'll collect you in ferries at Darling Harbour, transport you to our famous Taronga Park Zoo for a tour particularly of our Australian native animals, and morning tea; then to Manly, a wonderful seaside beach suburb, where you can browse, shop, take lunch, even swim - and take a coach to North Head, the entrance to Sydney Harbour, with a spectacular view back to the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House; late afternoon the ferries will take a leisurely cruise back to Darling Harbour, with drinks and canapés to finish a wonderful day. All this is included in your registration, so we expect everyone to enjoy this networking and sightseeing opportunity - and bring your partners, families and friends. Tickets need to be booked for any additional guests.

QUICK NOTE 14: BOOK THE EXTRA ACTIVITIES

You can STILL BOOK any of the extra activities, even if you've registered for the conference or workshops. Either go back to the online registration and work your way through and select just these extras, or take the registration form available on the web and complete the details and fax it to us with your credit card details. Note on the form or in the comments that you've already registered for other activities. We'll send you confirmation of your update.

Everything MUST be booked and paid for by 1st July, the cutoff point for all registrations other than onsite.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
