2012Q3 Reports: SIGSEMITIC
The SIG did not meet this year (last meeting was held with LREC in 2010). A new Chair (Mona Diab, Columbia University) and a new Secretary (Reut Tsarfaty, Uppsala University) were elected late 2011. With the Exec's permission, and a majority vote from the constituency, we moved towards a change in our constitution that facilitates more streamlined election process, removing some of the nationality/language-community constraints imposed on the SIG when it was founded. We plan a meeting for 2013, probably co-located with ACL. The SIG has over 200 members, an active (but low-key) mailing list and a compliant web site. We are planning on moving the website and mailing list to the USA this year. The SIG is looking into starting the process of endorsing relevant workshops such as ACL 2012 Joint Workshop on Statistical Parsing and Semantic Processing of Morphologically Rich Languages (SP-Sem-MRL 2012) as well as the shared task on parsing morphologically rich languages which will probably be colocated with IWPT in NYC in 2013.
