2025Q1 Reports: Member at-large - EMEA

The number of ACL SIGs has increased from 28 to 31 in the past year. We also have one BIG. The new SIGs are (1) "SIGSUMM: SIG on Summarization" https://www.sigsumm.org/ (2) "SIGSEA: SIG on Southeast Asian Natural Language Processing" https://www.sigsea.org/ (3) "SIGFinTech: SIG on Economic and Financial Natural Language Processing" https://sigfintech.github.io/

Currently, all SIGs are active.

Since autumn last year, we have asked new SIGs to include also ethical considerations in their new proposals (how are they going to take care of establishing awareness of ethical considerations and dual use within the SIG). This is not yet reflected in our SIG_Compliance document which new initiative use to draft their constitution and proposal though -- do we want to add it there in some way?

Also, I asked all existing SIGs last year to consider these points as well. As a result, SIGDial (Emiel van Miltenburg) conducted a survey among SIGDial members and wrote up the results in this document: https://arxiv.org/abs/2501.06636, which he shared with us.
